That's an interesting idea. I hadn't looked at the code for the more recent threads::shared and didn't realize shared_clone was implemented in pure perl -- I assumed it was in .xs like the rest of the module's code.

Actually, I now think I can solve my problem better using Data::Alias. But I'll have to test to see if this aliasing plays well with shared variables.
