You clearly didn't mean to use the ?pattern? operator. Fix: 

   $o_vers = $1 if $STAGE[$j] =~ m{/rdbms/([\d.]+)/} ;
   $o_vers = $1 if $STAGE[$j] =~ m{/rdbms/patches/([\d.]+)/} ;
