Hello guys and galls, I just came by perlmonks.com yesterday, and it's really great! I couldn't believe my eyes if I saw the amount of Perl information stored here. Really great job. I hope I can share my knowledge here with you and maybe this site will become a "regular". I hope so! It took a long time to find a Perl discussion site that fits my needs, but I think I found one ;)

    Welcome to the Monastery, azerton. It's always good to see new people join, because that means yet more good discussion has a chance of occurring. While you're getting used to the site, you might want to take a look at the PerlMonks FAQ, which has a nice "Making a Post on PM" section. Also, you might want to read How to Ask Questions The Smart Way. This is not specifically about Perl Monks, but is a nice guide to asking technical questions in general.

    Hope you enjoy the Monastery as much as some of us have!

      No, seriously, welcome aboard. You have just found what I believe is one of the best computer language communities on the internet. While this site is not the only reason I love Perl, it has greatly enhanced both my love of my language and my ability to use it as a deadly weapon. That, and it gives me something to do in boring telecoms :) Rejoice in the monastery, and be sure to consume the fine ales we brew in the basement. A vow of silence is definitely not encouraged.

      I know the "how to ask questions" page, it's one of my favourites when someone ask a stupid question. It's easy to 'serve' a link to that page to the author of the post. Oh yes, before I forget, I'm Dutch, so my structural English can be bad from time to time but I always try to do my best. :)

    I join my fellow monasterians in welcoming you. And do read up on the monastery protocol so your questions and answers will be well received. One word of warning: be prepared to change the way you program Perl. Before I came here, I had never heard of 'strict' or 'taint' or 'references' or 'scope' or 'CPAN'. In the 9 months I have wondered the hallways, niches, nooks and crannies of this place, the way I think about and write Perl has radically changed, and all for the better, thanks to the many monks who have gone before me. And if you keep clicking you will not only find the hours drifting by, but thousands of fun, clever, informative, and educational nodes.

    And there are regular personalities here, too many to mention (and I would probably leave one out), but it's kind of weirdly comforting to see the chatter of monks like castaway, bart, Limbic~Region, allolex, Mr. Muskrat, ybic, sporty, et al, scrolling along as you cruise the site.

    this a great group of people with an incredible knowledge of perl and programming. People are usually very willing to help you out, should you ever need it. Just ask.
