Where/how to contract w/ a Perl Monk to write a custom program?

I'm currently busy programming in Perl and an associate of mine with a medical client asked my advice about writing an XML to ASCII-file type translator. He'd even like an estimate from me for me to do it but I said that I was too consumed right now with finishing my own program to take on the responsibility. (Which PAINS me, because having seen the input info and the desired output format, it looks quite manageable.)

My question: I like the atmosphere of the Monastery and I like the paper trail that follows each Monk. How might my friend tap into the talents of someone here to get his "translator" program into production? Or in general, where is a good place to take such requests when looking for a Perl solution? Stated differently: are there sites that you monitor for interesting such projects to work on (and get paid for)?

If you just wanted any ol' Monk (or non-Monk), then the best place would definitely be http://jobs.perl.org. If you had a specific Monk in mind, you could always send them a /msg or check their home node for an alternate means of communication. If you were pressed for time, you might try asking in the chatterbox. Update: changed order of sentances and added the third one.	[reply]

http://jobs.perl.org/ allows people to post perl related jobs for free. Many jobs posted there are listed as "Terms of employment: Independent contractor (project-based)" ... unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anyway for people to search for "project-based" jobs when their looking for a little extra money. jobs.perl.org is the best. Unfortunately (for me), it gets a lot of British and and Indian fulltime jobs, neither of which I can fulfill, so I don't monitor it. I've asked before if we could create a page where monks list their availabilty and specialties, but it's been shot down. Maybe, I'll just devote my personal page to it ... ? ------ We are the carpenters and bricklayers of the Information Age. I wanted something like regional lists, it doesn't make sense to offer jobs in India and the UK to someone living in the Eastern US. I'd also like to eliminate the West Coast stuff too, but filtering out the UK and England would be a huge start.	[reply]

jobs.perl.org lists job offerings on a country by country bases. From its front page, it takes 2 clicks and no scrolling to get a list of job offerings for the US. No further separation in East and West coast jobs, but considering states are listed, and the list isn't that huge, it's neither hard to eye-ball for East coast jobs, or to whip up a little Perl program to do the filtering for you.
