    I know, mkisofs et al. But now my question is: Shouldn't there be? There is a Device::CDROM for Linux, is there something inherently limiting about Win32?

      There's an answer to that, but I'm fairly sure there's a size limit to how big replies can be . . . :)

        I was rather hoping for a slightly more enlightened response like "the HAL prevents direct hardware access..." I should have added "besides the obvious..." to the end of that last post ;)
