make does not come by default. Run http://cygwin.com/setup.exe and select the make package (in the Devel category).
Just as a guess, you may want to install gcc also. | [reply] |

Personally, I always install everything whenever I install cygwin. But, that's just me. :-)

I shouldn't have to say this, but any code, unless otherwise stated, is untested

dragonchild,
I have a full install of everything myself which I update daily. People should be aware that this takes a bit of bandwidth to download and fair amount of free disk space to extract it all. My current Cygwin directory is over 3GB.
Update: To be clear, this is an FYI and isn't to discourage anyone from installing everything - just giving them a head's up

Which means it cost you less than US$3, plus bandwidth (which is usually paid for on a monthly basis, regardless of transferred amount). Personally, unless I'm administrating a database server, I usually have no idea how big my hard-drive is. I have no clue how big the drive in the laptop I'm typing this on is - only that I haven't had space issues and never expect any.

I usually have success when I Google "UNIX utils for DOS". | [reply] |
