It's a horrible idea

CB is an interactive medium. if you want to flood it, the least you can do is type your messages.
Why are you actively seeking --? Is this like a game of Hearts, are you "going for control"?

Hello Wassercrats.
I must say I don't really see why this would be useful. The chatterbox is for people to talk to each other, not a platform for long monologues. I would like the max. length of a CB entry to be slightly higher (I don't know what it is right now, but I've run out of space a couple of times), but in general it's not a big problem.
On another note, it's not necessary to present your ideas as someone else's (even if they might agree with it). If they feel strong enough about something they will post about it themselves. It's very possible that you might misinterpret or misrepresent their opions and it does not add credibility to your posts, so please don't do that. Ofcourse, if you don't agree with this idea (I can't tell), why bother posting about it at all?
In general, I think some of your ideas are interesting, but your posting style leaves a lot to be desired. Presenting your ideas in a clear, non-insinuating or insulting way can get them a lot further. Rembember that this is a community site and almost everybody here is spending their time, for free, to make this a better resource for the perl community. Insulting people or making assumptions about their political inclinations or intelligence will make people (at best) ignore you or (worst case) feel so ill at ease that they'll leave the site. I'd appreciate it if you take this into consideration the next time you post here.
Regards,
Joost.

Wassercrats,
I saw this post last night and held off answering because I figured some of the people more knowledgeable than I would respond. Unfortunately, it appears that your stance on being contraversial has been perceived by many as childish and lead them to not taking you seriously. I am still on the fence and so I will offer you some of the concerns that might arise:
- Detecting leading /me and /msg and ensuring they are properly added to the remaining segments
- Correctly closing and opening format tags which AFAICT is not easy
- (Un)intentional abuse.
I am sure there are more issues, but I am neither a devil nor a CB client author. It isn't that these issues can't be overcome, but that they should be given careful consideration prior to implementing any such features.

As a cb client implementor - not to mention, cb user - I find the idea quite intriquing.
I think the flood concern is a bit specious. If someone seriously wanted to flood the cb, it's already possible; custom clients have been possible for, oh, ever.

The implementation I'd like to see is for there to be a way for a CB client to quickly detect the time since the last post, and if the CB has been inactive for five minutes or more, a maximum post length of 1024 would be allowed, with no divisions. If there's been no activity for fewer than five minutes, the post would be split into 256-character blocks with a time delay, beginning at 5 seconds, between the posting of every two blocks, that exponentially increases for each additional block, with the maximum allowable number of characters for all blocks together being dependant on the time since the last post.

There are plenty of other CB Clients. Why not learn from their sources and take a crack at implementing this functionality in your own client?

You said you wanted to be around when I made a mistake; well, this could be it, sweetheart.

The last time I looked I think the limit was 250 bytes or so .. that's enough for a few sentences. Anything longer should probably be a post.
It seems that this is a solution looking for a problem. What's this all about?
