Sorry about the kludgy title, any improvements welcome. What I am getting at is linking the monk's level displayed in a monk's node eg Friar in Random_Walk to the page about that level eg Friar. I did a super search and could not find any suggestions for or againt this

Every so often I like to see how I am progressing in the meaningless XP stakes and what prizes I will get at the next level. Unfortunately being a bear of little brain I can never remember how to get to the Voting/Experience System node and go off to search until I stumble across it.

Now I realise I can just add this into my personal nodelet but it would be oh so nice and a small tweak to find that when you view your page the level you are at links to the page about that level. From there the navigation to find out about other levels is blindingly obvious

Cheers,
R.

Voting/Experience System appears as a link on the "Information" Nodelet, as well as being a category under the About the PerlMonks FAQ, which is also linked to the "Information" nodelet.

That said, I don't disagree with your idea, and am interested to see what others think as well. It would be a pretty simple patch to apply. We would want to be sure not to break anything that others depend on, such as the PerlMonks Statistics Pages.

      Hi Dave,

I thought I had seen it somewhere in the side bars in days gone by but I customised the "Information" nodelet away some time ago. I think it still remains as a nice tweak to the UI, as long as it does not break anything else.

I always think A few useful links are fine as long as it does not end up looking like wikipedia ;-)

      Cheers,

I don't like having the level be a link. Several levels don't have pages devoted to them and it will be even more that way when the level revamp happens.

I'd instead put a ? link after the level information that links to voting/xp sys or some other xp faqlet that includes links to the level-specific pages.

It doesn't make sense to me to have a link to follow because I'm curious about what level powers someone else has. Maybe such linking would make sense when I look at my own home node, but I think the standard 'footnote' help link works fine for that and avoids kludgy code and inconsistent UI.

There's always that handy-dandy Need Help?? link in the upper-right quadrant of the page, no matter where you are in PerlMonks. It leads to the FAQ, and if you scroll down a bit, you'll find a stack of links to the various XP levels. That's what I use.
