I have to disagree with this dual posting scheme, because it's not straightforward for the user: after posting the node, the user can usually edit it, so how does he edit his node now?? suddenly his node contains HTML tags which weren't there... I don't think that's such a big deal, at least if you use my suggestion. If you're writing a simple post, you probably aren't going to update too much anyway (it's usually only the complex ones, with code, etc. you really need to update. But even if you do, it won't be too complicated to realise there have been some tags added - it's mainly the typing of the tags (when you don't need any other HTML) that's annoying, rather than having to know HTML, or whatever. To enhance this posting 'mode' even more, maybe PerlMonks tags could be left active, or have a separate check box to turn these off. A lot of my posts only use PM tags and new lines. I don't need HTML	[reply]

We're talking about adding a `<br />` or `<p>...</p>` around each paragraph. That is not too much for a poster. Morever, he is supposed to be able to add html tags by himself, so he won't be too surprised by the ones added... -- zejames	[reply]

point 1: how do you know where the paragraph begins and where it ends to add the <p> tags? point 2: if the user is supposed to add html tags by himself, don't add html on his behalf then. What you are talking about now, and what I am refering to are two different things; you want an option that the user can select consciously and it will add tags for his post. I'm refering to adding tags by default for new users who don't know that they can format their texts in HTML so that <quote>"not-xhtml-aware posters could write clean posts to read."</quote>. That creates inconsistent behavior in the way the system works, and interferes with formation of posting behavior habits. I think it's a bad idea to have tags suddenly appear in anyone's posts when they go back to edit them. It should be all or nothing for any given user. - apotheon CopyWrite Chad Perrin	[reply]
