This domain name expired on 01/14/2005 and is pending renewal or deletion.

Is this a mistake, or is it gone for good? I like the google search a lot better than super search.

Looks normal to me. Or is that “is back to normal?”

In any case, it was not gone for good, as careful reading of the message would have one expect. As it suggests, with the registrar system for domains, there is a grace period between the time when the yearly fee for a domain is overdue and the time the domain is actually deleted. During that time, the domain/zone can no longer be resolved, but the owner has an opportunity to comply with his duty.

    Makeshifts last the longest.

I suspect you were looking at a cache from somewhere...

I can't think of "thepen" to leave service, because I use this service on a regular basis - approximately one time in two days.

I use thepen homepage to reduce my XP by 5 points, otherwise I will overgrow my real XP knowledge :):):)

It still works for me and I am sure it was not a cache I was looking at.

perlmonks.thepen.com resolves to blca.blazenet.net which seems to be the ISP hosting this site. So it is still active.

Maybe not a cached page, but you're using cached DNS to get there, surely, as Network Solutions has changed the nameservers (see the whois record or query a root nameserver) and pointed it at their pending delete page.

Try querying NS1.PENDINGRENEWALDELETION.COM -- query for the A record of any domain at all, and it returns a CNAME to their little site.

user@server% dig @NS1.PENDINGRENEWALDELETION.COM foofooblahblah.net a ; <<>> DiG 9.2.3rc4 <<>> @NS1.PENDINGRENEWALDELETION.COM foofooblahbla +h.net a ;; global options: printcmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 40648 ;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;foofooblahblah.net. UPDATE (Jan 24 2005): It looks like the domain was renewed by the owner and the nameservers restored, so things should be back to normal pending any DNS propagation.
