Prasad, if you want to post on-site links in your answer, please follow the guidelines described in What shortcuts can I use for linking to other information?. Your links will bypass the login-cookie and therefore the follower will end up as Anonymous at the linked page. Another benefit of using the `[id://123456]`-form is that linked node titles will be displayed automatically, instead of an undescriptive address. Why do you post an answer when you don't answer the question? The OP is obviously asking a question related to perl formats. Why are you giving random links about localtime? pugsly62, if you're listening, you might want to try something along the lines of the following: `format STDOUT_TOP = @<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< scalar localtime . format STDOUT = some data here . write;` [download] Update: forgot to mention that I downvoted prasadbabu's post for being a non-answer. -- edan	[reply] [d/l]

The OP is obviously asking a question related to perl formats. I would not call it "obviously". It can be guessed, yes, but not known. He also might want to put a date in a HTTP-header or something. The OP should read Tutorials, esp. On asking for help and How to ask questions the smart way (off-site). I consider the mention of `STDOUT_TOP` a dead giveaway. If prasadbabu didn't understand that the question was about formats, then he has no business answering it. And as for you holli - I wish people would stop playing dumb, get off the "you have to ask the question perfectly or we'll flame you to hell" high-horse, and get on with helping people. Thanks everyone...I had been searching diligently through my perl books but I could not find any reference to using functions in headers, thus my question. I'll give your example a try. Thanks! Scott	[reply]
