Messageboard 'markup' tips

nmerriweather has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I need to create some messageboard style functionality.

While it is obvious from previous discussions that HTML::TokeParse is what I should utilize to strip html tags out of 'postings', I have no idea how to integrate messageboard style markup

ie: allowing B or I tags (in the style of perlmonks approved html tags), or probably using bracket [] style tools to create 'smart tags'

I know that this is common, and most definately in some module, somewhere, I just can't find that module.

Rather than trying to deal with HTML, perhaps Text::WikiFormat or Template::Plugin::KwikiFormat would be an acceptable solution?	[reply]

or simply POD? There are pod2html converters available and it´s not hard to learn. holli, /regexed monk/	[reply]

if you can count to 10 without using your fingers, yes, thats true i'm not entirely convinced that the average internet user can count to 5 even using their fingers though...	[reply]
