Why use awk at all? ypcat passwd \| perl -wne '/:/ and print "$`\@domain.local\n";' [download] or `ypcat passwd \| cut -d: -f1 \| sed 's/$/@mydomain.local/'` [download] or `ypcat passwd \| sed 's/:.*/@domain.local/'` [download]	[reply] [d/l] [select]
