in reply to PerlMonks Conference

YAPC and PerlMonks are both coordinated by The Perl Foundation. If there's something you don't like about YAPC, just tell them and try to get it changed.

IANAL, but I think that depends on which YAPC you're talking about.

AFAIK, YAPC::EU is coordinated by YAPC::Europe Foundation (YEF).

It's not that I don't like YAPC or the price of it, which is easily justified, it's just that I was thinking more along the lines of something just for the PerlMonks members, be it a conference, or just a general get together.

Maybe cogs suggestion of a PerlMonks BOF at YAPC is the best way to go. But I don't think that could be achieved this year.

I think arranging a PM BOF at, e.g., this years y::E would be eminently achievable - a quick mail to the mailling list to ascertain a suitable day/time and venue availability with the organizers and an announcement here is all that it will take. Most BOF sessions tend to get arranged in an even more ad hoc manner than this IMO.

If there is enough interest on here, then we should go for it.

And if anyone does organise a PM BOF at YAPC::Europe, can they advertise it better than the one in Paris. Getting to hear about it afterwards was a bit of a disappointment.

I went to the PerlMonks gathering at YAPC and OSCON last year, and honestly, they weren't very big. There just aren't that many people on PM who go to conferences.
