fluffyvoidwarrior has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello, I'm currently working on an ecommerce project that requires secure posts from my server and scripts to handle secure posts by return. I'm running Apache 2 on win32. I have no idea where to start other than trawling cpan which could take some time and lead up blind alleys. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to which tools I need to accomplish this? Thanks

I guess you already know that Apache itself will handle all the SSL bit for you, so from the point of view of Perl, you just need to write a "standard" CGI application.

Obviously, take a look at the CGI modules, you probably also want to take a look at HTML::Template

I'm not sure what your e-commerce app will do exactly, but if it's some shopping cart type affair, I'm sure there are lots of pointers in building those in Perl, as well as ways of linking them to online payment providers like Worldpay etc.

You should also be warned that writing e-commerce applications is time consuming and not terribly easy (I know, I've done it). Unless you are required to write your own you might take a look around to find one that will meet your needs. I know lots of people who have had success with Interchange. Its written in Perl so that makes it even better :)
