It's hard to believe - this is my 1000th post to perlmonks. I mean, I belong to some other online communities, but I guarantee that putting them all together, I haven't posted 1000 times anywhere else (except maybe usenet, but that's impossible to gauge, and I'm not sure I still want to stand by some of those posts ;->).

In that time, I've managed to garner enough XP to pass by my betters (TimToady, TheDamian among the top of these, but many others as well), and still manage to watch Pustular Postulant tlm fly by me as if I weren't posting at all. If that's not a lesson in the futility of XPWing, I don't know what is. (Well, I suppose it'd be a bigger lesson if it weren't for the fact that tlm really does know more about perl than I.)

Meanwhile, I think I've managed to get some significant help on some issues that probably saved me days of development trial and error, although I've probably spent more than that savings in helping others ;-). I've had some serious bugs confirmed by others - very helpful to discern my own sanity level before sending in a bug report. And I'd like to think that some of my 1000 posts have helped others past their problems and on to more productive work.

And I look forward to the next 1000 posts!

A big thanks to all who help make this place happen.

Congratulations. I thought it appropriate to reply as this is my 500th post :).

I note that you have been wandering the halls about twice as long as I and have garnered a chunk more than twice the XP that I have. That helps keep me at least slightly humble, although comparing ones performance with tlm should keep most people a lot humble!

My experience here is pretty much identical to yours - I'm surprised by how much I've posted, I've had huge help from the other monks (in the CB too I must add), I've helped a few others and made some good (virtual) friends along the way.

I echo your sentiment in thanking those who created PerlMonks and those that maintain the site. This is far and away the best support forum that I know of and I'm pleased to be a contributor and hope that my contribution is positive.

Perl is Huffman encoded by design.
What a blatant try... (was: Re: One thouasand posts)

What a blatant try to get voted some XP by playing on cheap sentiments... Try posting some interesting things instead.

(-: I wouldn't dare post a joke like this to someone that didn't have more than 30 times my XP! :-)

    But, seriously:
It is you "old" guys that make this place so nice and educate the new to fit in. It is good that such things still exist on the net. Thank you.

The actual problem is that XP is probably futile, but PerlMonks levels, attributed by the same futile XP points, are much more appealing! :-)

BTW, the road to my 1000th post is incredibly long...
