After venting my spleen, someone /msg'd me with a word of encouragement. I (half)jokingly responded that I was initially tempted to sprinkle in a few blink tags for emphasis but ended up deciding that it would be too much.

Later, I wondered if they would even work. So I /msg'd myself a test message containing blink tags and noticed an interesting behavior.

The blink tags were properly removed from the checkbox, but not from the little "you said..." message.

Just an odd little observation, in case anyone is interested.

    Go to private message xml ticker (then "view page source") to see that the tags are kept by the system and not removed until displayed in the HTML chatter nodelet. Other chat clients will likely deal with them differently.

    That makes sense, the gun is disabled when pointed at other monks but you are allowed to shoot yourself in the foot. =)
