Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

is there some ready perl script(online web based tool -not the desktop), allowing convert tabular information (various tables) to plain text? The purpose is convert spreadsheets and tables to ASCII text with ease -for use in email messages, source code comments?.

      That's what I would have suggested myself, especially since I have actually used it. But I have also seen Perl6::Form recommended, and these days is certainly worth mentioning...

    To format tabular information in ASCII, take a look at Text::Table.

    There are various tools which can read tables and output ASCII versions. Which tool you need depends on your input type. For excel spreadsheets, you could try Spreadsheet::ParseExcel.

    Care to explain? If you have a script designed to work as a desktop tool for what you need, then chances are that a minimal set of modifications can turn it into say a CGI script or similar.

    More precisely what you're asking for is rather vague and the more probable answer you're likely to get is one along the lines of those you've already received thus far: either pointing to some snippet or to a suitable module. Then it's up to you to put everything together in a complete working program (web based, if you like!) suited for your needs.
