I think there is an easy way to get the chick to at least show up less: buy banner adds on the site. Buy tons of 'em. The chick will then appear only now and then, and the rest of the time you could see banners like: "Perlmonks is brought to you in part by Azatoth a.k.a Captain Whiplash", "Get YOUR PerlMonks Stagename here!", or my favorite: "This is a professional Perl forum!".
