phathead22 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is there a way of installing Active State libraries/modules without the auto-connect routine in PPM?
I'd like to try to do it manually; I understand that they are already compiled;
Can I just un-zip them and move them to the proper directory?
Thanks PH

    If I understand your request, then just download the *.PPD file and look in that to see where to find the meat of the distribution for your platform. Download that as well. Then modify the *.PPD file, replacing the "http://..." bit with where you put the rest of the distribution, such as "file:c:/temp/Widget.tar.gz".

    Now you can have PPM install the module by just typing "ppm Widget.ppd" on the command line from the directory where the Widget.ppd file is.

    Yes, you can. you can start here. This is also possible with some CPAN modules, if they're implemented in perl.
