Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi, i was testing the connection to the SQLserver using perl thru' DBI module. But it seems that the module was not found. May I know how to connect to the SQL server using perl but without the DBI module ? Can i use the Win32::ODBC module ? If Can, how? But i think this module is only allowed for Access. Can someone help..!! thanx

You can use Win32::ODBC but you are then restricting yourself to a M$ platform, possibly not much of a restriction but DBI is pretty simple to use. If the module was not found then you can download it from cpan , there is a nice searchable interface here . If you want to go direct to the DBI home page look here You will need the ODBC module DBD::ODBC to connect to sqlserver. This may sound a more cumbersome route but it will mean that your code will be nice and generic. You will only have to write DBI code (which is nice as DBI is nice).

You may want to check out the nodes:

I'll just point out that those nodes mentioned by zigster are good also for SQL Server v7.0 & 2000. Don't let the names scare you.
