I couldn't resist

This isn't perl but it is about perl and it sprang in my mind all at once. I vaguely recall some poem with the word Nantucket, but cannnot remember it at the moment. This uses the same cadence or whatever poets call that (meter?)

Please don't hate me, I suffered enough using C for 5 years after I was introduced to this wonderful, insane, egaugnal.

I once saw some code by larry
And frankly I thought it was scary.
I started at four
and shrank from the door
but struggled until I was merry.

As I turned from my desk, my cat Nixie spoke to me and said:

A cat does not know;
She is troubled - Tis not so,
cats can !code perl.

First one is a limerick. Rhyme scheme is A-A-B-B-A. The key is the metrical feet: two long and one short (aka anapest metrical foot). A metrical foot is roughly (but not quite) equivalent to a syllable. The line lengths (by metrical foot): 3,3,2,2,3. The second is a haiku that uses a 5-7-5 metrical pattern (typically there is no rhyme in a haiku). And yes, I was an English major, specializing in Creative Writing - so I wrote many, many haiku's and such :-) I'm still recovering.	[reply]

I've heard one about a "lady from China" but I'm not going to repeat it ;) `C is a language quite dreary, 500 lines for a query. Not written with ease, It's Like a disease, But Perl is a dream with a query.` [download] Not so good, but OK. I love C actually, but only because it is legible assembler. I used to use it for text processing - after I spent weeks writing a string processing library (yes I knew the libraries but are you kidding?). A guy I knew back in 1994 introduced me to Perl and even loaned me an O'Reily book on 4.* The syntax was unfamiliar to me at that time and was simply overwhelming.
