It depends on your operating system. On Windows you'll treat the camera as a TWAIN device and probably use the google://eztwain library. On Linux and BSD there's the SANE project (Scanner Access Now Easy).

    It you're going to mention the definition of SANE, then I think you kind of have to mention that TWAIN is "Technology Without An Interesting Name". (No really).

        Then again, wikipedia has the text "Kevin Bier, chairman-emeritus of the TWAIN Working Group and the original author/editor of TWAIN 1.0 (with the aid of several others from seven companies), confirms authoritatively that TWAIN, while not officially an acronym, was conceived as referring to a "toolkit without an important name.", which is close enough for government work.

        Besides, I read it on the internet. It must be true.

      I only mentioned it because I learned it in the same moment I learned where SANE is on the web.
