OP here, could I perhaps compile *but not install* a newer version of DBI that I could then manually add its blib directory to @INC?

OP again, sorry to keep replying to myself...its not the DBI version, i managed to circumvent the issues keeping me from upgrading and now tried it with DBI 1.50...same issues :(	[reply]
