deadpickle has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Well I decided to try and build a waypoint display using Zinc. To do this it would be nice if I could use world (latitude and longitude) coordinates to place the waypoints and also the uas position. I was wondering if anyone has done this? Is there a way I could translate window coordinates to lat/long coordinates and vise versa?

The kernel of this question has come up a number of times in the past. Super Search turns up a number of related nodes, the most useful to you is likely to be Lat/Lon to V&H conversion.

DWIM is Perl's answer to Gödel
so how should I fit this to a window that is say 500 x 500? is there any modules that exist to make this easy. Also, how do you convert between zones using Geo::Coordinates::UTM?

Maybe this world maps might give you a starting point? You could make a series of maps and place them on the Zinc canvas, then overlay your vehicle/plane on the GD image.

it looks like a module called GD::Map does a good job at making basemap. Also I believe that I could make the basemaps i need if only I could get Geo::ShapeFile's test program to work. I have been emailing the author with no solution. :(
