I agree that we want to encourage future participation, but I fail to see why zero votes combined with some useful answers does not accomplish this goal. Upvoting these types of posts on the other hand would seem to encourage the bad behavior. I would rather save my votes for good replies and good, interesting questions.

I concur! I think it's good for a community to have discussions like this. I learned something new (the downvoting going on) and more importanly I got to read one of the most insightful posts I have come across in a long, long time. I am of course reffering to BrowserUK's Re: What would this place be without questions ? post.	[reply]
