Perl 5.9.5 was released on 7/7/07. Per the unofficial announcement, this should be considered a beta of perl 5.10, and the hope is to have a 5.10 release by September.

    This could be a nice poll -- what's your favorite new feature of perl 5.10?

    Mine is the // operator -- finally easy to initialize variables!

      I like the _ prototype... anything that gives me more flexibility when using $_.
      PS, the feature list for 5.9.5 is here for anyone else who wants to look!

      I looked at those slides and... wow... just wow...

      Just wish the slides were in s5.

    state() variables gets my vote

    I would have voted for state variables, but they seem to have been dropped. They're mentioned in perl594delta but not in perl595delta, not even to say they've been removed.

    Consider this to be a spoilt ballot paper in protest

    update: Tirwhan showed me the error of my ways. Thanks Tirwhan.

      Given that perl595delta explicitly states

      This document describes differences between the 5.9.4 and the 5.9.5 development releases. See perl590delta, perl591delta, perl592delta, perl593delta and perl594delta for the differences between 5.8.0 and 5.9.4.

      I would guess they're still there.
