Node parents shown while viewing a node

Hi,

i usually surf PM from the Recently Active Threads page.
If there is a new reply to a node, i usually click on its parent or parent of parent because i can't remember them and the reply itself could not be clear enough to figure it out.
But doing that means i must "hunt" for the new node and in some cases that's not easy.

In the hope none asked that before, i was thinking if it wouldn't be nice to have the parents of the viewed node displayed (only parents, not siblings): that would help me (and hopefully others like me) to check a node directly having an idea of the scenario.

See the recent discussion Extra CSS for "new nodes" when viewing a thread. The bottom line is you can put the following style code in your Display Settings and it will highlight new (vs. old) nodes in a thread. The point is not highlighting new nodes, but viewing the context of a reply. Personally I think it could be useful, but would end up being counterintuitive unless the selected/viewed post is highlighted differently from its parent and children. Otherwise you'd think you might have clicked on the wrong link.	[reply]

What I do is click on the root node that has new replies, then look through the node for the highlighted replies. Works pretty good for me. I usualy choose the root node if i don't remember the conversation, or if i do remember the conversation then I click a node two or three levels above the newest one so that I get some context. You know how to view the context of a reply. View its parent or grandparent. Yes, that will show the siblings, etc., which you didn't want to see; but at least the new nodes — the ones you're interested in — will be highlighted. A word spoken in Mind will reach its own level, in the objective world, by its own weight	[reply]

I could see it being helpful for context. When I end up in a child node, i will usually click the "in thread xyz" link anyway.	[reply]

At the top of Recently Active Threads, there's a link to change "View Mode" to "Node Ancestors". Try that view mode to see the ancestry of new nodes.
