What I do is click on the root node that has new replies, then look through the node for the highlighted replies. Works pretty good for me. I usualy choose the root node if i don't remember the conversation, or if i do remember the conversation then I click a node two or three levels above the newest one so that I get some context. This works pretty good for me.
