    Did you look at the link I gave you to http://learn.perl.org/? It has a section titled 'Books for beginners'. I would suggest starting with 'Learning Perl'. You can also check out the Reviews section of this site.

    If you already own a copy of Learning Perl and Programming Perl (both O'reilly books), then I suggest you pick up a hardcopy of Mastering Algorithms (also an O'reilly) to dig more deeper into Perl and become more specific in approaching a problem with challenges.
