Hello fellow brother/sister monks,

I was reading some news in the Perl News section here at the monastery, and went to vote on a particular reply that I found worthwhile, and helpful. To my dismay, there was NO vote button at the base of the screen! I figured that this could have happened on my computer with it, so I refreshed the page, and it still wasn't there! So, I now figure that this is a bug that needs reporting and/or an explanation why I can't vote on monks' replies in the Perl News section. For further information, I was viewing the article: Perl Binary Distributions from Siemens FYI. Thanks in advance!

I think part of it stems from the fact that perlnewsbot isn't really a monk so much as an automated servant, a droid if you will. :-)

Interestingly enough, I noticed that while the vote labels ("++", "--", and "+=0") appear on replies to a News node, the radio buttons don't appear until you view the reply directly. Once you do that, you can vote on replies as normal.

Yes I noticed that as well, but why is there not a vote button on the direct page you first view of that news item?? Thanks for the help! ^_^

I ++ed this, and saw it had a reputation of -5 (!!!). What's the deal? It wasn't a stupid question. He wants to vote on replies. I realise the title is a little misleading, but for crying out loud, did you read the paragraph before --ing it?

Thank you grinder for actually reading my question before voting on it!! I lost like 7 XP for no reason. This is NOT a flamer or trolling post!! It was a serious question related to the Monastery. I don't understand why most people here just shoot before they actually read my questions... :( Please care next time! P.S. Sorry for the title of this post, it was a little wacko.

Heh - I just voted it ++ and saw that it is no longer in the negative - good, your question does not deserve to be flamed TOO heavily. But I do have a beef with questions like this.

My main beef is with this attitude: "Hey, this is broken, fix it." It's not broken. How many times must people be reminded NOT to abuse discussions - most discussions are based on individual wants that really do not add to the overall effectiveness of this site. vroom is busy enough.

Furthermore - we are programmers, not 'Power Users'!

Programmers don't whine about stuff - we find ways around the problem - granted, there is no way around this problem, but then again - it's not a problem, because the newsbot is not a user that needs encouragement with ++'s.

Don't get me started on 'Power Users' . . .

Actually, I thought the title was very descriptive - I knew immediately what you were talking about before I even read the paragraph.

Next time - ask someone in the chatterbox first. It will save you embarrassment - or at least you can blame it on other people. :P
