in reply to Leftover votes: wild suggestion / feature request(s)

Interesting idea, ++ for the suggestion. Someone suggested carrying over half of the votes, so may I complicate things by saying either half of the votes to a maximum of a quarter of your daily allotment, or just plain one quarter of the votes?

Letting the votes pile up deflates their value, so having them carryover for just one day is, I think, the way to go.

However, donating excess votes to someone else on PM isn't useful behaviour, IMHO. I suspect it would lead to an increase in 'gaming' the system, and leans the system away from a meritocracy.

How about your vote allotment has a half-life of one day. That is, half your unused votes roll-over each day. I think this would approach 2 × your allotment in a steady-state of not voting. Or... each unused vote has a 50% chance of living past midnight.

I've been resisting the urge to throw this idea in, but I think the more complicated the formula, the better chance of acceptance at PM.

    (additional emphasis by me!)

Ehm, what about the nearest integer approximation of the (inverse) golden ratio of the votes? Just because I'm too fond of that number!
