If you're on win32, the (poorly documented) way of installing DBI is via ActiveState's Perl Package Manager (PPM).
c:\> ppm install dbi
or, for more info
c:\> ppm
PPM interactive shell (1.1.1) - type 'help' for available commands.
PPM> help
I used ActiveState Perl for about 6 months before discovering PPM by looking over someone's shoulder. I'm convinced that many people never discover it.

without know the type of system it is, it's hard to be specific. I'll make the assumption it's a *nix of some kind. in that case, you should be able to find all of the materials above on the web. the real trick will be having the correct access. if you're not root, it'll be hard to install some of these (gcc in particular).
some places to look for gcc, make etc.

It's a Debian Linux server, and I cannot get root. I guess
it wouldn't be too hard to find x86 Linux binaries of gcc.
Thanks for the links.
