Won't that be over 300 years from now? If that's really a problem, just add sprintf '%17.6f' or whatever to the mix.

    No, it was a few years ago, using the unix epoch.
    $ perl -wle'print ~~gmtime 1e9' Sun Sep 9 01:46:40 2001
    Other past problem dates are 19700101 (several digit changes:), 19700102, 19700112, 19700426, 19730303.
    In the future lie 22861120, 51381116, 33658-09-27, etc.

      I figured you meant the switch to 11 digits because time's not about to start running backwards.

      The sprintf solution can be used if the problem is changed to something that needs to handle past dates.
