Looking at my work in-progress, I now recall that I wasn't happy with the text part of it. I started out with a more stylish font but it looked rather muddy, especially when I went to the smaller size. So I switched to a clunkier (not anti-aliased, not Italicized) font and planned to make some by-hand adjustments. But I never finished the by-hand adjustments and didn't get beyond looking at smaller versions.
So, I'm pretty happy with the drawing and you can see the current state at /images/perlmonkIcon50.jpg. The font should be stretched a bit taller in-part to open up the holes in the "P" and "e" and the space reduced between the letters of "Monk" so it looks less crowded. Then I'd probably do some by-hand shading adjustments for more roundness (especially the "r"), to soften the shadow, and to clarify the "M". Finally, I like the colors but adjustments are probably required because I'm sure we have Perl Monks harboring a near-irrational antipathy against a color that might be construed as pink.
