Hmmm,

I admit I asked this on the CB, but I'd like to give the monastry as wider airing as possible, to that end I'd like to be able to download a reasonable sized PM icon to use as an href img on one of my web pages - in the same way as is (used to be?) possible for the http://perl.org.

My question is, does such a thing exist ??

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))

TFT bellaire, it'll probably suffice, tho' I was rather hoping for a version of the "Camel book"-a-like icon...

      Thanx again,

Note that the Camel is an O'Reilly trademark. It looks like PerlMonks has permission to use it (judging by favicon). That means you can use it to link to PerlMonks, but it shouldn't be used to link to arbitrary Perl sites.

The Perl Mongers website includes some questions about issues with their version of the Camel logo in their FAQ. Of course, the Perl Mongers logo is only authorized for PM groups to use.

On my other computer I have two small icons of a hooded monk and "Perl Monk" text that I put together when I was trying to make an official PerlMonks group for LinkedIn. I'll upload those later.

Looking at my work in-progress, I now recall that I wasn't happy with the text part of it. I started out with a more stylish font but it looked rather muddy, especially when I went to the smaller size. So I switched to a clunkier (not anti-aliased, not Italicized) font and planned to make some by-hand adjustments. But I never finished the by-hand adjustments and didn't get beyond looking at smaller versions.

So, I'm pretty happy with the drawing and you can see the current state at /images/perlmonkIcon50.jpg. The font should be stretched a bit taller in-part to open up the holes in the "P" and "e" and the space reduced between the letters of "Monk" so it looks less crowded. Then I'd probably do some by-hand shading adjustments for more roundness (especially the "r"), to soften the shadow, and to clarify the "M". Finally, I like the colors but adjustments are probably required because I'm sure we have Perl Monks harboring a near-irrational antipathy against a color that might be construed as pink.
