Dear monks,

being a scrupulous newbie here, I read some help docs. About setting a real name we can read

Only gods (the site administrators) can see this information. Your real name is not displayed anywhere on PerlMonks.

It's respectful to the people to keep their private data private, but why there isn't an option to choose if you want your real name to be shown? Is it so rare for monks to disclosure their real personalities that the options is not considered a standard?

Or maybe it's a concept borrowed from real monks' naming tradition?

but why there isn't an option to choose if you want your real name to be shown?

Maybe because it's so easy to do that yourself, by adding a line on your home node?

Sure it is, but then what is the meaning of optional (as you can write anything in "real name"), textual information seen only by Gods? I just don't understand it.

Sorry if my questions sound a bit arrogant, I didn't planned them to; that little text field just took me by surprise.

The field can, for example, be used to verify that you're the account holder if your password recovery email is not reachable for you anymore.

Sorry if that wasn't clear, I didn't meant to say that it's a bad idea to make it optional. I just don't think it's worth the effort, given the horror stories I hear about the perlmonks code base.
        The meaning is.

My parents, the Monks, named me Anonymous.

Anonymous is a popular name in the Coward family, as well.
