No. If include the scalar file name with the quotes ('"$fileName"') then it will not recognize it as a variable and will use the name literally.

    Then don't do that. The quote still needs to be at the end of the arg.

    Wrong: "C:\Documents and Settings\my.name\My Documents\My Company\QA\"TestingWorksheet_07232009.xlsx
    Right: "C:\Documents and Settings\my.name\My Documents\My Company\QA\TestingWorksheet_07232009.xlsx"

    Are you saying you don't know how to build the latter string? By the way, why didn't use the multi-arg system call I suggested?

      If I quote it in such a way ("") then it will not recognize spaces within dir names... we've already been down that path.
        You keep talking about the quotes in the source. I'm talking about the string your code needs to build/produce/generate. I'm leaving it to you to figure how to do so.
