And what's incorrect about that? Perl prefers the "nearest even round" operation, as I recall, but otherwise should work the same as your local sprintf.

It's incorrect because it claims that it does use local sptrinf() for floating point operators, not some internal emulation. Or maybe I'm misreading the whole thing? "What should it profit a man, if he should win a flame war, yet lose his cool?"	[reply]
