arifsaha has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is there any social networking software / engine developed in Perl? (like Elgg in PHP)

Thanks!

Movable Type Pro is written in Perl and claims to have "Social Networking Features", but I don't know just what that means in their world.

I'd be very interested to hear about any solid FOSS social networking options written in Perl as well. I'm in the process of working up a proposal to do a social networking site and would prefer to avoid having to fall back on a PHP solution.

Unfortunately only for the non-FOSS version! :-(

From what I've seen, generally social networking software will be a CMS solution with these features:

      1. contacts list (so called "friends"),
      2. tailoring one's view and access based on that contacts list and each contact's contacts list,
      3. micro blogging (with comment), again will have view and access based on that contacts list.
