How does one properly include a graphic in a post? I suppose I could link to an offsite file, storing it on my own server, but that has two problems: I don't have access to a server at work, and I'd have to maintain that link forever.

Using the Super Search and browsing around, I found Uploading user images works again! which implies the Everything2 server can accept images directly, somehow, but I can't find anything more on it.

What's the normal and/or approved way to do this?

It's generally frowned upon to include an image in a post. I recall when one user included banner ads for his site in his posts (I can't recall the user) and many monks complained.

For a list of what you can and cannot do, you may wish to read Perlmonks Approved Code tags.

I believe the normal way is to post the image on a personal server and then link to it using a standard <A HREF="..."> text link. Someone once used a trick to post a picture in a node and it sparked a certain amount of controversy. (I believe you can find the details by rummaging through his nodes or his articles.)

Personally, that's how I'd rather you played it.

That node is talking about uploading user images, not node images. Once you reach level 5, you can upload an image to your home node. Other than that, there is no support for uploading images. You can't even display images from other sites except on your home node after level 5 (modulo a few bugs).

I wouldn't put support for uploading images for use in nodes very high at all on the priority list for this site.

Thanks for the info

From the several replies, I gather that one shouldn't use any kind of IMG in a regular node (home nodes don't use the same "approved" list), and if I wanted to refer to a screen shot I could use a HREF.

Thanks to y'all for the several good replies I got in just a few minutes--I can continue with my main post without further delay. No thanks to whoever voted it down--it was an honest question and I had SuperSearched first, etc.
