Countzero, thanks for the suggestion, but when I try to create the makefile, I get this error:
Set up gcc environment - 4.5.2 I have no clue how to install iconv under Windows. If there's a way, please help by sending patches!

Aww, sorry. I have iconv on my Windoxs systems and I *thought* Alien::Iconv installed them. Obviously not.

Here is a link to pre-compiled binaries of Iconv for Windows systems.

OK, I finally have time to try to follow up on this. I should've mentioned in my OP that my Windows is 64-bit, which I presume is the reason why trying to install the Gnu32 link hasn't solved the problem (tried installing wget, too, to similar success). I'm I stuck until a 64-bit iconv is released?
There is a 64-bit version of MinGW that includes Iconv: http://www.drangon.org/mingw/

I didn't try it as I have no 64bit Windows version.

You're stuck forever :) gnuwin32 iconv was released in 2004 , its not likely to be updated any time soon, or release 64 version

You might try compiling your own, or there might be a binary over at http://mingw-w64.sourceforge.net/
