Based on a previous thread on chaining nodes, one possible solution to be able to trace discusssions may be to enable a Super Search options for "Links To". The search string would be limited to a node number (as it only makes sense in this fashion); not only would the node number be looked for, but the node title could be determined and used as search terms in the same search.

Extending this a bit more, you can have a link for each node that invokes this search, called "Find References".

This way, backwards-chaining of nodes can be done by node authors without problem, while forward chaining would be weakily implemented by this mechanism. The changes would require minimal SQL setting up and a tiny bit of HTML change, but again, Fearless Leader is a busy man...

Re: Super Search by Link Reference?

Would it be possible to make a variant of the keywords nodelet where monks and above could link similar nodes? Adding a little bit of human editorship to the process would improve the results.

On the other hand, it'd probably create a weighted graph, and someone'd have to do some nasty work to track all of the relationships there. Maybe updating softlinks with a cron process...?

Super Search excluding my nodes?

I agree. This would be a very useful option. I just wanted to post a suggestion for the Super Search myself, so I can add it here:

Why not add an option "exclude my nodes". This would prevent your own posts to be included in the results. I often search for a certain subject I have posted something about myself, but don't like to see my own posts included in the results...
