Random extracts appended to end of posts after create?

Recently -- the last 3 or 4 weeks -- I've been getting odd bits of text seemingly extracted from the post itself, appended to the end of my posts after the sig when I first create them.

It doesn't appear to happen when previewing, not when updating, only the first time create is done. It can range from a few odd characters -- in Re: Finding intersection of many sequences is was just 'ulli' -- to several partial sentences stuck together. No pattern is obvious (to me).

I've been manually cleaning them up when I notice them, but maybe the description will mean something to someone.

I’ve had this problem too, quite consistently, and over a longer period of time. It seems to happen randomly, but I do see it in previews, and also (particularly) when submitting to my scratchpad (mostly the private one). I’ve developed the habit of checking the tail of whatever I’m posting, and removing any extra text, before pressing `preview` or `submit`. Don’t know if it’s relevant or not, but I’m using Opera under Vista 32-bit. I either type directly into the submission window, or copy-and-paste from a text editor. choroba: I don’t use a Node Template. What difference would that make? I suppose I just assumed this was a quirk of the PerlMonks website — but if a fix is possible, it would certainly be welcome. Athanasius <°(((>< contra mundum	[reply]

I have observed that Opera will fairly-consistently do it, not just here but on other websites as well; and that Safari and Firefox generally will not do it on my system. I suspect that it is therefore pretty much has to be a browser bug. I simply try to remember to check the post one-more-time for garbage at the end. (Removing that garbage always works; no other garbage reappears.) bage reappears.) `;-)`

G'day BrowserUk, I see you've found this is a reported bug: Re^6: Random extracts appended to end of posts after create? (data). Let's hope it's fixed soon. I've been getting the same problem with Opera on Mac OS X. Deleting the garbage at the end doesn't seem to work but replacing it with a newline does (although I occasionally have to do that a couple of times to make the garbage go away). Maybe that workaround will work on your OS as well. -- Ken	[reply]

I've not experienced any problem deleting the extraneous crap, but thinking about it, it is quite likely that I've been deleting it by selecting it and hitting enter. Thus effectively adding a newline which might explain my success.
