So this is the books website: UNIX and Perl to the Rescue!: A Field Guide for the Life Sciences (and Other Data-rich Pursuits): Dr Keith Bradnam, Ian Korf

And apparently : How good is their Unix & Perl material ( Unix & Perl Primer for Biologists ) ? Good enough to get you a job in bioinformatics!

So armed with that knowledge I try python for biologists, stumble upon Python for Biologists books (Python for Biologists and Advanced Python for Biologists) which is kinda similar enough .. so look at the reviews, the perl book by PhD, this book by a PhD ... seemingly positive reviews ... you probably won't go wrong looking more in depth at reviews of this book and comparing to the reviews for the perl book, comparing the table of contents

So I think thats it :) please check it out and report back (in this thread) your thoughts/experiences

Piled higher (&) Deeper authorship is no guarantee of quality content. :-) Quite seriously, tho, if you can tell me the PhD author is a bioinformatics practitioner with a some serious CS and Perl background, I'd take citing the authorship more seriously. But merely citing degrees is NOT a recommendation, per se. Try "Learning Perl" -- at least for a start. Spirit of the Monastery	[reply] [d/l]

Does your response mean you think that interpretation is off-base? actually this is quite funny, i realised, because when i was very young (not that im that old now). But before i got into computers i actually had a huge interest in biology to. I mean the main point for me in this Unix and Perl book is indeed Unix amd Perl. But this relation to biology, hmm interesting, coincidence? :D	[reply]

Hi again people, :) Thank you for this response, its much better then accusing me of trolling. :D I actually already even also had a tought in this direction. But after looking around a bit it looks to me that "Python for Unix and Linux System Administration" might be closest to the answer. Because of my interest in OSs growing into interest in Scripting/interpreted/memory managed langs. Also nice to know about Lama. Cuz 1000 pages scare me somewhat. Since to conquer it i will have to take same dedicated approach like with a with Bible, and it will surely also take a year or so, if not even more. p.s. Actually, if i think about it. It might look indeed that im trolling. Because it seems i like to ask some controversial questions. :D Like about Python on a Perl forum right. Who even does such a thing.. :) hf guys, cu	[reply]
