Perl & XML

Any thoughts on this book?
Is it worth the money?
Should I get one for my Mom for Mother's Day?
:)

There's a story and some good posts over at use.perl.org. From what I've heard it sounds excellent. Unfortunately I can't give you a review since mine hasn't arrived yet.

Update: Oh yeah, and if you're going to order the book online, don't buy it from Amazon, they're evil. Now where'd that dead horse go...

YAU: I'm not sure how much of a feel for the book it'll give you, but O'Reilly has made a sample chapter on XML basics available online.

If you're just starting out, knowing nothing about XML, it will seem like a good book. If you know lots about XML already, it will seem very thin (it's 200 pages, and about 100 pages are introductory stuff about XML in general, with some perl references).

Overall it's a much needed book that fills a gaping hole in the market.

The book's not terribly exciting and seems to contain a level of detail that most geeks will never use. But I'm new to XML and I'm sure it will make more sense once I also read the HTML & XHTML, XSLT and XML-RPC books. Yay for O'Reilly!

ps For your Mom on Mother's Day? Only if she's a geek too. Otherwise, prepare to get swatted.
