Personally I think that doing so in Perl News _wouldnt_ be as horrible as some folks make it out to be. And if they got deleted after a while then no bigie eh?

My view is that by starting such a business you would be doing the Perl community and thus indirectly the Monastery a valuable service so allowing such things would be in our interest. So I would like to say that I wish you every bit of luck and success in your endeavour regardless of where you end up posting your adverts. If it was up to me we would set up a wiki or a section specifically for this purpose. But alas it isn't.

I'd agree except that I've seen discussion groups completely overrun by jobs-related items once the door was left ajar. It is much harder to draw a subtle line in the sand regarding what jobs are allowed (even a seemingly clear line like "only Perl jobs" won't work in my experience, resulting in lots of just-barely Perl jobs and lots of quibbling over the line) than to draw the stark line of "no jobs announcements". - tye	[reply]

I think that doing so would be a disservice to both Leigh, perlmonks and that merry band of job hunters looking for Perl work. It's a disservice to Leigh because there is already a place for Perl related job postings http://jobs.perl.org/. It makes much more sense to point Leigh to a site that is read by the target market in question, rather than encourage posting to a site where (hopefully!) most people are not looking for work. It's a disservice to perlmonks. To people who are not looking for work job postings are just noise. Not to mention the issues over what is/isn't a Perl job. It's a disservice to job hunters. When I'm looking for work I want to spend as little time as possible wandering around different web sites looking at job adverts. The more people the Perl community can push towards http://jobs.perl.org/ the less time I have to waste browsing.	[reply]
