in thread readmore tags not working for me

That doc could use some updating. For one thing, READMORE doesn't just work in "root node"s. For another, the description is not clear (as you noted). /me clicks the Need Help?? link and searches for "readmore"... *sigh*

Well, the best explanation of READMORE I found just now was the one I wrote in a footnote of Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. I hope that helps some of y'all. Perhaps it will even inspire some SiteDocClan member(s).

Thanks for the information. It does raise another question for me though. I noticed in Re^3: How to update a node? (readmore in code) that the raedmore tab appears to be case sensitive according to the second option below.

    you can write <READ MORE> or <READMORE>

I know this is not the case with the <code> tag but are there other case/whitespace issues with the perlmonks approved tags, shortcuts, etc?

      As I predicted:

(though the first will confuse newbies and the second has already confused you -- look closer)

You were confused by it. Look closer (and not just with your eyes, as there are no visual clues present). It is not case-sensitive. About the only thing that is case-sensitive at PerlMonks is username and password checking on login, and the former will be fixed.

ok, That's pretty cool. Looking at the source I saw a hidden dash character that translates to ascii character code 173 however the actual character associated with that code is an upside down exclamation point. At first, I thought it must be a language issue but then I woke up. ANSI 173 (soft hyphen). I guess I should have taken the hint when you said look closer. I hope that in the future I will do a little more investigation and read between the lines before I jump to conclusions. Every now and then we all need A Whack on the Side of the Head (by Roger Von Oech) or tye ++. Thanks.
