Actually this sounds more like an employment screening test than homework.

I think these tests are worthless.

If this is indicative of a real employment screening test, then I'd tend to agree with you.

Especially if the potential employee can apparenly have unlimited/unmonitored internet access during the test. Or maybe the OP is the one creating the test?

update: or maybe we're all invited to take this test, because the OP has some super-sekrit job for us that will be revealed after we pass the test. Who knows.

I don't think people at PM answer such job-search/hw type of questions.

The answers to most of the questions can be found googling around. You are in the wrong place!!!

Can you name the person and organisation who provided these test questions? They demonstrate a naievety that suggests they shouldn't be doing this job.

    12) What is the sound of one hand clapping ... upside yo head, foo'!

Sorry if that seems a bit strong, but if I want to do other people's jobs, well, that's why someone created upper management.

And now, a few not-so-serious answers to some of the questions in this unusual post.

      2. The Perl script on the site is working slow. What’s your plan of attack?

Depends .. is the goal to speed the site up? In other words, how do we know that the script is the causes of the slowness?

      3. Name several reasons why a Web site would not work entirely.

OK, but define 'not work entirely' first.

      7. How much memory do you need for Web server app? Describe your logic of calculating this number.

Depends on how fast you want the 'Web server app' to run, and how much budget you have.

      10. What Perl tools do you use for coding, testing, debugging?

Coding: my brain, a piece of paper and a pend; later, vim and Logger::Log4Perl. Testing: my brain (again) to try out various combinations of functionality that exercises the various aspects of my web application. Debugging: Once again, my brain, and the Perl debugger, along with the logs created by Logger::Log4Perl.

Really .. this is just about completely devoid of Perl content. Do you think you posted this on the right site?

This is worse than homework! This "person" is wanting us to answer questions from a technical interview. These type of questions are commonly posed by dim witted governement beurocrats looking to hire someone ( because the previous holder of the position finally couldn't take the BS any longer and called the fraud, waste and abuse hotline) they can disrepect as a geek who will solve "small minded technical matters" for them, like how do I send faxes from Explorer, waste tax payer money and how do I tie their shoes without getting their fingers caught, thus leaving them to the "big picture" problems "for their big brains" like how to pull their "big-fat heads"out of their "big-fat" asses before the world explodes and cost them their million dollar homes in Monterey.
