Installing PERLIDE

oblate kramrdc has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi fellow monks!

I'm sorry if i might sound stupid but i just tried installing PERLIDE in my HP Ipaq.

Followed all the instructions in http://www.rainer-keuchel.de/wince/perlce.html. But i can't make it work!

Extracted the contents of this file to perl-wince-sh3-hpc-wce211.zip my storage card then extracted this to my ipaq windows folder \celib-3.11-dll-src.tar\celib-palm-3.0\wince-x86-hpc-wce300-release. Then I ran the batch file in perlce.html. But when i ran the perl.exe it get this error msg "perl is not a valid pocket PC application."

Hi. I went to the URL: http://www.rainer-keuchel.de/wince/perlce.htm and it gives me a not found error. Anyway, I would suspect that the Perl IDE does not come with Perl itself and you _may_ have to install a Windows Perl such as ActiveState Perl or other Win32 Perl Binary Distribution, or compile Perl yourself in Win32. The first option is probably the easiest and quickest for most Windows users.	[reply]

Oh i see... I thought i could write and compile my perl scripts using PERLIDE... Thanks for that clarification.	[reply]

Wasn't much of a clarification; as far as I know, Activestate doesn't have a WinCE version of perl available. I'm not sure what the PerlIDE mentioned does or does not include, but information on the WinCE port of perl can be found at http://search.cpan.org/dist/perl-5.8.8/README.ce and http://perlce.sourceforge.net. looks like you've got a network issue...url works fine here. the hardest line to type correctly is: stty erase ^H	[reply]
